Every June 20, the world pauses for World Refugee Day, a United Nations (UN) initiative that has drawn attention to refugees, their courage and resilience since 2000. With events and symbolic gestures, we focus attention on their plight and push for sustainable solutions.

Why is this day so important?

  • Strength and resilience: refugees overcome enormous barriers and build new lives.
  • Apply policy pressure: World Refugee Day mobilizes political attention to emergency systems and integration.
  • Encourage action: it is a call to support and assist refugees through volunteering, policy advocacy or a listening ear.

Yasin’s journey: from newcomer to IT professional

Take the story of Yasin Sohret. 4.5 years ago, he came to the Netherlands with one goal: to work as an IT professional. Without a network or a Dutch diploma, that dream seemed far away. Until he joined Motopp. After successfully completing the IT traineeship, Yasin started working at Rabobank. There he has been working as a Mendix Developer for several years now. This is a great example from a successful story.
